Cyberpunk 2077 for PC is a first-person shooter with a difference. In a dystopian free state of California, the rules of nation and state no longer apply. Instead, playing as a mercenary named V, the player must work their way around the city, reaching their goals and fighting enemies that appear throughout the game.
About the Game
After seven years of hard work, Cyberpunk 2077 appears to live up to all the hype generated by its E3 2019 reveal.
Fifty-seven years after the tabletop game it is based on, Cyberpunk 2020, the graphics are so realistic — in characters, scenes and even actions and movements — that you could mistake them for film sequences.
Playing this narrative game, it is possible to play through without killing other characters, using non-lethal weapons and strategies that keep you away from the serious confrontations that tend to become deadly.
The game features mature content, as players are able to upgrade their bodies with modifications that grant them extra powers and abilities, requiring them to undress to accommodate their new limbs and accessories.
New Details
One of the biggest selling points is the fact that Keanu Reeves is heavily featured in the game. He plays a character called Johnny Silverhand, the lead singer of a band, Samurai, whose songs contain lyrics relevant to V's mindset and life.
Silverhand, an original character from the tabletop game, died during that era but "lives" inside V's head. This means the character has more lines of dialogue than any other character except V, who is the protagonist.
Reeves was a surprise at the reveal of the third trailer, and gave enthusiastic fans the release date, eager to get to grips with the latest offering from CD PROJEKT RED, famous for giving us the beloved Witcher series.
Ways to Play
- Skills: You can play throughout the game, relishing V's agility (the character is fully customisable in terms of clothing, gender, height and much more), and racking up a high kill rate as you dart behind walls and vehicles to take down enemies as quickly and accurately as possible.
- Smart Rifle: Using the Smart Rifle is a great way to target your enemy. Simply lock onto their avatar, then send a bullet their way. The bullet will pursue the character until it catches up with them — an effective way of clearing obstacles while pressing on with your mission.
- No Kill: There is no moral code in the game, which means you can storm through killing anyone and everyone who annoys you if that is how you like to play. However, there is no need to kill anyone at all. Challenge yourself to work through the game in a non-violent way, trading and dealing with non-playable characters (known as NPCs).
NPCs are important to the game — take Johnny Silverhand as an example — and you can interact with them, befriend them and even marry them. As a result, the no-kill method of play can open up a whole new world, introducing you to characters and their backgrounds in a way you will not experience if you simply destroy them.
End Game
There is no fixed goal for the game. Instead, V must travel around the city, working to find health points and mods, avoiding or killing bad guys and generally just living their best life. Think of it as a world away from the real world: a place where you can be someone a little different.
